No speakers? No problem!

File this under crazy but it works: If you stick your phone in an empty glass (or empty fishbowl — emphasis on the ’empty’ part!), it will amplify your speakers’ sound. Really.

It’s a lifesaver for three critical moments in life:

  • When you’re on a conference call with another office, and you need to hear every voice on the other line (especially that coworker who snark-whispers what she really thinks after each person speaks). Just stick the phone on speakerphone and pull it out of the glass whenever you want to chime in with your thoughts. You may want to keep the phone on mute when you’re not talking, just so people don’t hear you rummaging for the phone each time. Plus, that’s just good conference call etiquette.
  • When your apartment has suddenly turned into a makeshift party, and you don’t have a sweet Beats Pill speaker like the ones jammed down our throats highlighted in a tasteful display of product placement in every music video these days.
  • When you’re hosting an impromptu solo dance party in your room a la Cameron Diaz in Charlie’s Angels.
