Confession: I’m a sucker for Auntie Anne’s pretzel dogs, and I’ve long thought the only thing that’d make them better is everything bagel seasoning. (Maybe I missed my calling working in the R&D lab of a fast food chain?) So, one day, I took matters into my own hands, testing everything bagel dogs recipes until I came up with a dish that could be the mall rat dinner of my dreams (or just a fun appetizer).

Bagel-ifying puff pastry or Crescent roll dough is surprisingly easy—all you need are some tongs, warm water and baking soda. And honestly, puff pastry OR Pillsbury’s Crescent roll dough works well here. Use whatever’s easier to get your hands on.

I’ve included two cooking methods; if you like crisper bread dough, and a bit faster cook time, opt for the air fryer method. If you don’t have an air fryer, the oven works just as well. If you try the recipe, DM me on Instagram with your fave method—or any variations you make!

Tip: If you like bread just as much (if not more) than hot dogs, use one sheet of puff pastry or one tube of Crescent roll dough for every four hot dogs.

Everything Bagel Dogs Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 package puff pastry or 1 tube of Crescent Roll dough
  • 1 package hot dogs
  • Everything Seasoning:
    • 2 tbsp poppy seeds
    • 2 tbsp dried minced onion
    • 2 tbsp sesame seeds
    • 1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
    • 1 1/2 tsp coarse salt
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tbsp baking soda

How to cook ’em in the oven:

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
  2. Unfurl Crescent roll dough into one sheet, ignoring the perforated lines. Or pull out one sheet of thawed puff pastry dough. Cut the dough into one-inch-thick strips. Roll one strip around each hot dog.
  3. Make everything seasoning: Combine poppy seeds, dried onion, sesame seeds, garlic powder and salt in a small bowl. Set aside.
  4. Pour water into a shallow bowl. Microwave for about 1 minute, so it’s warm and a little steamy. (Depending on the wattage of your microwave and how thick your bowl is, you may need to add 30 seconds to get it truly steamy.) Add baking soda, stirring to dissolve.
  5. Using tongs, dip each dough-wrapped hot dog into the baking soda-water mixture, getting it fully submerged. Place each dipped dog onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and sprinkle liberally with everything seasoning.
  6. Bake hot dogs for 9-10 minutes, or until pastry is golden and has puffed up.

How to cook everything bagel dogs in an air fryer:

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F.
Remove it, gently shaking off excess water and place on a plate. Sprinkle liberally with everything seasoning, then place each dog into the air fryer basket or onto the air fryer tray, about an inch apart.
  6. Bake hot dogs for 7 to 8 minutes, or until pastry is golden and has puffed up. Since air fryer types vary, I recommend checking on them right at 7 minutes, just to see if they need more time.
