Admittedly, I got sucked into the Labubu obsession—and it wasn’t even my 6-year-old’s doing. I was instantly charmed by the fiendish little monsters when a PureWow colleague showed them to me last spring. They reminded me of Maurice Sendak’s wild things, and my sense of nostalgia kicked in, so I thew it out as a birthday gift…without realizing the frenzy that’d soon ensue.
They’ve become the new Beanie Babies, and while some of the hype has waned, they still make for one fun (and pretty cozy) costume this year. And while you could shell out nearly $1,800 for a cosplay-caliber look, there are far more affordable ways to channel the trend.
It’s only a matter of time before Pop Mart officially launches costumes, right? Until then, we’ll have to DIY. Here are some options for anyone who doesn’t sew—or have time to go full papier-mâché (though more power to you if you do!).

Labubu-Inspired Monster Costume Ideas
- Leg Avenue Bunny Monster Bonnet, $25 at Amazon (available in pink, brown and green)
- Adult Fluffy Pajamas Set, $34 at Amazon (available in similar pink and green colors)
- Kids Fuzzy Pants Set, $34 at Amazon (available in similar pink, green and brown colors)
- Labubu Halloween Bag, $22 at Pop Mart
You could paint your face a pale peach, with a toothy grin. Or, for a more cartoonish take, make a DIY mask: Cut an oval out of peach foam paper or poster board, adding on large eyes and a nine-toothed-smile. Cut out eye holes, then glue the mask to dollar store glasses, lining the lenses up with the eye holes, for an easy monster face.
