Picture this: It’s 4:30 p.m. on Halloween. You’ve ordered your Huntrix costume, and you are refreshing the delivery status every 38 seconds, but nothing has changed. It’s stuck in Customs somewhere where between the original shipping location and your front door.  You mail man approaches your entryway, and you ask him the same thing you’ve asked him every single day for the past 3 weeks: “Do you have it?”

He shakes his head slowly and hands you another stack of mail, an envelope stuffed to the seal with Valpak coupons, along with two dozen candidate brochures for the elections next week.  And as you watch him leave, you realize you don’t have a costume and tonight’s the big night.

What do you do?

Well, worry not my friend.  Because we are here to give you these beyond-easy last-minute costume ideas. Using just supplies around the house and a bit of creativity, you’ve got everything you need to make these masterful costumes come to life. Let’s jump right into it.

1. The T-Shirt Ninja

This look is disproportionately good compared to the time it takes to do it. Grab a t-shirt, tie the arms behind the back of your head, and roll up the head hole to frame your eyes, and just like that, you’ve got a 30-second costume. Check out this YouTube video for a full demo of what to do.

2. Rosie the Riveter

Denim shirt, jeans, and a red bandana (or any red cloth/scarf) tied around your hair. Roll up the sleeves and then strike the iconic pose. Featured in a discussion on Reddit about costumes from your own closet

3. Ina Garten

Candace’s note: Interrupting Nate’s post to share this alt idea! Hear me out: “If you have a denim shirt and a bandana but you’re not feeling Rosie (or you’ve done it before), why not channel the Barefoot Contessa instead? Wrap the bandana around your neck like a jaunty ascot and grab a wooden spoon or whisk to tote to really drive the look home.”

4. Identity Thief

Wear a jacket (like a trench coat or blazer) and cover yourself with “Hello My Name Is” name tags. Write different, random names on each tag.  No name tags? Print these and use tape!

5. 404 Costume Not Found

Sometimes, we just need to lean into the joke.  If you really have nothing and don’t feel inspired by any of the other ideas we’ve given, simply print out this printable with the error message 404 Costume Not Found.
