Admittedly, by 2024, we thought we’d be over Zoom scavenger hunts, but given how many of us live far from family and friends (or just don’t want to trudge out in this harsh winter weather), it seems we’re back, back again. Zoom parties are back, tell a friend. And, to be honest, they’re pretty much the only video chat game we haven’t tired of. Since you’re here, it seems you haven’t either. (Hiii!)

Sure, there are more romantic ways to celebrate February 14th, but if you’re hosting a Galentine’s Day party or are looking for an excuse to catch up with friends long-distance, these Valentine’s Day Zoom scavenger hunt ideas don’t disappoint. (Oh, and while the primary list is totally family-friendly, for my teachers out there—or anyone hosting a bunch of kids—feel free to edit the list to focus on things that’d be less awkward to share among the elementary and middle school set.)

How to Host a Romantic Zoom Scavenger Hunt:

Ideas and rules for a traditional Zoom scavenger hunt (with a V-day theme) are below. But, if you’re hoping to surprise someone with an unconventional scavenger hunt in more of a one-on-one scenario (or if you’re going to be out of town on the holiday but still want to make it feel special), here’s what you do:

Hide a gift in the house
Tuck away a series of clues leading one to your gift
Set up a Zoom or FaceTime call
Provide the first clue over the video chat (be as poetic, cheesy or straightforward as you’d like!), kicking off the “hunt”
Ask the person to return to the camera (or bring their phone with them), reading aloud clues as they uncover them

Group-Friendly Valentine’s Day Zoom Scavenger Hunt Ideas:

The Rules: Give everyone 1 minute to find the following items. The first person back with a qualifying item (the host is the judge of that!) gets 3 points. Everyone who comes back in time with an item that fits the bill gets 1 point. (You can decide whether to award a point for screenshots of certain items.) The person with the most points at the end wins.
